Living history
Spain's great literary legends from the opulent siglo de oro period (1492 – 1681) once called Madrid home. Gongora, Quevedo, Lope de Vega and Miguel de Cervantes, author of the globally celebrated novel Don Quijote de la Mancha all lived here.
Barrio de las Letras (Literary Quarter) is the neighbourhood where some of Spain's greatest literati have lived over the years.
National Monuments
To mark the 400th anniversary of the one of Spain's most famious landmarks,
the Plaza Mayor was transformed into a tempory grassy park in 2017.

National Library The Biblioteca Nacional de España (National Library of Spain) is a major public library, the largest in Spain, and one of the largest in the world. The library was founded by King Philip V in 1712 as the Palace Public Library (Biblioteca Pública de Palacio).
